I think I can be funny sometimes…for people that understand my part Latina/part Newfie humour.
Funny enough to be a comedian? Ah, nope. I’d probably get 1 chuckle in an hour. Not as bad as the main actor comedian in the TV show Baby Reindeer(who’s laughing all the way to the bank now!), but definitely bad enough that I know it ain't happening.
I think I’m a good enough writer...so that I can write this blog on my own without hiring a copy writer(I looked into it and too 🤑🤑🤑 anyway for little ol' me).
Good enough to write a bestseller one day? Ahhh, nope.
And although I’m a good enough writer, I’m a veeerrry slow writer because I have a working memory disability that I self-diagnosed after my son, Evan, was diagnosed with one. His psychoeducational assessment's diagnoses of that disability as well as ADHD, brought so much clarity to me about how MY brain works. Too bad psychoeducational assessments weren’t popular in the 80s along with pink lipstick, purple mascara and teased Madonna hair. I would have looked awesome AND known the truth about my brain at a young age😜.
Dang, we can’t have everything.
Anyway, what I just wrote above was 100% me but being a slow writer sucks so I'll soon join the rest of the world and make chatgpt my new BFF.
Why soon and not already?
Because chatgpt just doesn’t write like me yet(and that bugs me). I spend just as much time changing and editing what it writes for me. When I ask it to be a bit funnier, it gets real corny.
Dang, we really can’t have everything.
So for now, here’s chatgpt’s corny analogy of creating a calorie deficit and its effect on your metabolism…the #1 thing YOU MUST UNDERSTAND before trying to lose another pound.
And then I'll share the best nutrition plan on the planet. Yup, the best 😉.
Take it away chatgpt(in blue ink). Not sure how I feel about the handbag analogy it picked, though...
Alright, ladies, gather 'round for a little story about our bodies and calories, using one of my all-time favourite analogies: the budget-friendly handbag!
Picture your body as a stylish, budget-conscious handbag. This handbag is your trusty companion, holding all your essentials and making sure you look fabulous wherever you go. But just like any handbag, it has a limited capacity and needs some careful management to keep things organized.
Now, let's talk about calories. Calories are like the coins and bills you put into this handbag. Every morsel of food you eat adds coins (or bills, if it's a slice of cake 🙃) to your handbag. And every time you move, exercise, or just breathe (yes, even breathing!), you spend those coins.
To lose weight, you need to create a calorie deficit. This is like trying to save money by spending less than you earn. If you want to shed some pounds, you need to make sure you're not overloading your handbag with too many coins. In other words, eat fewer calories than your body uses.
Simple, right?
But here's where the plot thickens.
Imagine you're so determined to save money (or lose weight) that you start putting only a tiny amount of coins into your handbag every day. We're talking less than 1,200 calories, which is like surviving on a shoestring budget. Sounds noble, but in the world of handbags, this can spell disaster.
When you eat too few calories for too long, your handbag (aka your body) goes into panic mode. It thinks, "Oh no, we're running out of coins! Better start hoarding!" So, it starts to hold onto every single coin it gets, making it super hard to keep the weight off. This is because your metabolism—the rate at which your body burns calories—slows down to a crawl. It's like your handbag developing a sudden fear of spending, no matter how fabulous the shoes are! (🙌 good one, chatgpt!)
Moreover, if you keep under-filling your handbag, it starts to feel a bit worn out and frayed around the edges. You get tired, cranky, and let's face it, no one likes a handbag that can't handle a shopping spree(well, except for some partners, eh? 😝).
Your body needs a certain amount of calories to function properly, keeping your metabolism revved up and your energy levels high.
So, what's the takeaway here? To keep your handbag happy and your weight loss journey sustainable, aim for a reasonable calorie deficit. Think of it as budgeting wisely, not starving yourself. Fill your handbag with enough coins to keep things running smoothly, but not so many that it feels uncomfortably heavy and full. Eat mostly nutritious, satisfying foods, and don't forget to enjoy a daily treat(if needed) and the occasional piece of cake 🙃 —because every handbag deserves a little sparkle now and then🎇!
Remember, it's all about balance. Your handbag (and your body) will thank you for it! 🌟
So there you have it. A bit corny eh?
Back to me...
Now what's the best way to eat to create this sustainable calorie deficit WITHOUT calorie counting, temporary menu plans or annoyingly weighing all your food?
Here's the BEST nutrition plan for lasting weight loss. It's really about going back to basics since the dieting/packaged food world has complicated nutrition in order to make $$$$.
This is all you need to know and do for you "calories in":
4. Weigh yourself weekly so you see if your efforts are working and you're achieving a calorie deficit. Remember, the scale is just a number. Don't see it as a measure of your self-worth.
Print the info-graphics, read them over a bunch of times, follow what they say and always have them with you when you prepare and eat a meal.
Along with this back to basics nutrition plan, try your best to sleep 7-8 hours a night, move more daily(7,500+ steps a day or a minimum of 30 minutes 5 days a week), plus complete three weekly 30-60 minute total body(cardio and strength) workouts.
All along you will preserve your metabolism and help your hormones work properly, even if you're perimenopausal or menopausal!
AND YOU WILL KEEP THE WEIGHT OFF FOR GOOD BECAUSE YOU HAVE HABITS IN PLACE THAT YOU CAN DO FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE.
But don't forget it starts with telling yourself YOU CAN DO THIS.
And you absolutely positively can.
You're not a failure or weak if you've struggled for years.
This makes you the opposite. It makes you a real human being.
It doesn't have to happen all at once.
Make patience your superpower.
Just pick one of the above habits and start tomorrow, if that's all you feel you can do.
You deserve to feel and look your best....on YOUR terms.
You deserve to be fit, strong and healthy and live a long life...dancing and smiling, without a care(or a cane 😜 ), every step of the way!
